Shanghai Lumpia (Pork Spring Roll)

Hi everyone!

Here’s another family’s favourite recipe – Shanghai Lumpia (Pork Spring Roll). We make this almost every 2 weeks. I always order Shanghai Lumpia when we dine outside. It is a comfort food to many Filipinos. It is best serve when it’s fresh and hot.
Lumpia are pastries of Chinese origin similar to fresh popiah or fried spring rolls popular in Southeast Asia. The term lumpia derives from Hokkien lunpia which is an alternate term for popiah. The recipe, both fried and fresh versions, was brought by the Chinese immigrants from the Fujian province of China to Southeast Asia and became popular where they settled in Indonesia and the Philippines. 1/4 kg minced pork
Spring Roll pastry sheet
medium size onion
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbps shredded carrots
water – to help seal the roll

1. Mix all ingredients except water
2. Prepare spring roll sheet. Pull the wrappers apart. This will save time.
3. Wrap 1/2 tsp meat using spring roll sheet. Seal by dabbing water on the sheet.
4. Fry in slow to medium heat. Make sure you don’t burn it as this will cook quickly.
5. Serve with sweet and spicy Sambal sauce.
6. Enjoy!

Also a pinoy here. Well, half at least. Thanks for the recipe. My mom never follows anything so she’s not too consistent. When I try to make it, I kind of make it to my own tastes, but I’m glad to have a recipe to follow.

Awesome! I love Lumpia Rolls. We had them one time and I loved them so much I practically begged one of my Filipino friends to teach me how to make them. So she did! She showed how to make lumpia rolls and pancit noodles. We eat Filipino foods about once a month now :)
