Baked Tahong (Mussels)

Hi Friends,

Baked Tahong (Baked Mussels) is consist of butter, garlic, a little sugar and cheese. This is a great appetizer. Yet again another favorite dish of my family.  Since,  my oven gave up on me I cooked these yummy mussels using a pan on a stove. The result is actually almost the same. I couldn’t really tell the difference. I suppose this should be titled Baked Pan Mussels? Does that make sense? haha.  Back at home, my father love to make these but we use the charcoal grill instead of oven. I guess, there are different ways of cooking  “Baked Tahong”.

Baked Tahong

1/2 kg Baked mussels

2-3 Tbsp butter (salted or not), softened

1/2 tsp fine sugar

1 Tbsp minced garlic

Grated Cheese – I used cheddar cheese. Use Quickmelt cheese for best result.

Step 1.

Boil Mussels until shell opens.

Step 2.

Prepare butter mixture. Combine all ingredients except cheese.

Step 3.

Open Mussels and remove the other half.

Step 4.

Put butter mixture and sprinkle cheese on top

Step 5

Baked at 400F (200C) for 5-10mins or until butter and cheese have melted.

My version: Arrange all the Mussels in a big pan. Cover and cook in low fire until butter and cheese are melted.

Step 6. Enjoy!

Judy, these look fantastic. I have to pin this!! We had mussels from the east coast about 10 years ago and I have loved them ever since. The guy that brought them just cooked them in white wine. Your recipe sounds so delicious, think I might have to get some on my next trip to the city! Yummmmmmy!!

Oooh… Masarap! Na miss ko ang mga ulam doon sa Pinas! My mom used to always cook this when we lived in Hawaii. I’m missing my Filipino roots here in TX because there’s hardly any stores to go get ingredients. You can still come over and cook this for me if you like :).
