This is just a very quick post about our situation here in Cebu.
There was a lot of destruction after a 7.2 earthquake hit Bohol and Cebu Islands. The hardest hit is Bohol Island where the epi-center was located. It was around past 8 in the morning (Tuesday) when the earthquake struck. I was sitting on my chair and checking my emails when suddenly the ground shook. I thought it will only be a mild earthquake. I immediately stood up and found myself froze for a second near the door. I was thinking what should be the best thing to do. It happened so fast. My little boy was sleeping on our bed so I just grab him and a pillow, covering his back. We stood back near the door, I was carrying my little boy so tight with one hand and my other hand was supporting the computer monitor when I saw it was about to fall from my working table. My little girl was downstairs with the grandparents. I never felt an earthquake that strong in my entire life. There was nothing I could do but pray to God for our safety. I was shouting my little girls name but no one answered. I wanted to ran downstairs but it would be a bad idea so I waited until I felt it was safe to do it. Then few more seconds, I ran down the stairs to check on my daughter and in-laws. They were outside. We were shaking, you can see fear on our faces. People were outside their homes and waited until the quake settled. Everybody were afraid to go back to their homes. Just a few minutes we had aftershocks and up to this very moment while I’m typing this post.
We tuned in to the news and social media like FB and twitter. Images and videos of the destruction surfaced so quickly. So, I leave you with the images and videos including my own.
I do not own the images above. I got all these from Facebook shared by my friends.
A lot of churches in Bohol Island that collapsed. There was a stampede that led to a few deaths including children. Some roads in Bohol cracked and it was hard for other nearby town to send help. Some areas do not have water, food and electricity. The government is doing their best to send relief goods to affected towns.
A family friend of ours said that the aftershocks that we have in Cebu is like a new earthquake in Bohol Island. It is traumatic. I sometimes mistook my heartbeat as aftershock.
I am praying for the safety of everyone I pray that there will be no more casualties due to aftershocks.
Be safe everyone.
