I’m Back! House Purchase Update

Good day to all my friends! I really miss you all. I was out of internet connection for 2 weeks!

I am very excited to share with you our house hunting update. Remember my post “Should we buy the Duplex or the vacant lot? {Thanks to all who commented there. I really appreciate all your comments}. Well, we did a lot of thinking and these were the consideration in buying our first home:

  • Accessibility
  • Location (One consideration: Flood prone area)
  • Neighbourhood Safety
  • Price
  • Lot size
  • Clean Lot Title
  • House size
  • Crime rate

Buying a house is a stressful matter. It was not that easy as I’ve thought it would be. On the other hand, while we were undecided between the 2 properties, we continued to search for other properties within the city.

It took us a couple of visits to other properties before we reached our final decision. The decision? We are not going to buy the Duplex nor the vacant lot. The vacant lot was ideal but the seller hasn’t made up their minds and we don’t want to keep on asking them so we presumed that they are not willing to sell it to us.

We are buying one of the units of this subdivision. This lot consist of 8 units. The picture below are the first 2 units. The first unit will be completed next week.

The location is within the heart of the city. We are not planning to buy a car so soon so we will be taking the public transportation. Accessibility wise, it’s good. It’ s near the mall, school, and transpo is not a problem,  The location of the unit is near our support groups too aka in-laws and my mom. The price is within our budget, which is great!

The size of our unit is not big. This is a town house subdivision so it is expected to be small houses. Our lot area is 64sqm, Floor area is around 90-100 sqm. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 toilet and bath, 1 powder room, kitchen, living room, carport and dirty kitchen.

I would say that this is quite enough for the 4 of us.

Here are some photos of the constructions site. I can’t wait to go back to see the finished unit. There are a lot of ideas floating on my mind right now as to what and how to decorate the whole house but for now please enjoy these raw photos.

For our unit, we plan to have some changes to the lay-out (luckily we are allowed to do this), tiles, bedroom sizes and maybe some fixtures. Oh, we bought the corner lot which is bigger than the first unit.

What do you think of this town house? Are you living in a small house? Do you have any advice how to make it look bigger?

    Judy,
I’ve come to the conclusion that a big house is great when you first move in. Over the years a big house means a lot of cleaning and maintenance which gets tedious. Plus you tend to accumulate more stuff (a.k.a. junk) when you have more space than you need. Just my thoughts.
It looks like everything is going fairly well with the building. Good luck.

      Hi Anna,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I agree with what you said. That is just so true. I like a house that is enough in size for the whole family. Smaller house is easy to manage but it should be always free of clutter and organized to maintain serenity at home.

Aww, Miss you girl! Yes, 2 bathrooms is a blessing plus there’s a powder room in the first floor. I soo love it. It is a small house but compact :) Thanks for the visit Karen. The move will take some time though. We are targeting early next year or before the year ends. :)
